Dental Implants
Dental Implants are the best way to replace a missing tooth. A dental implant allows you to have a new tooth which looks and feels just like your own. Dental implants are the most predictable and long lasting way to restore your dental health and comfort. They allow you to enjoy your favourite foods, speak clearly and have confidence in your smile.
When choosing your dental implant provider you need a team of experts who care for all your needs. Seapoint Clinic is Ireland’s largest and most experienced provider of dental implants. For over a decade our experienced implant team has been placing implants and changing lives.
At Seapoint we understand that every person has different needs. We will individually customise your plan to suit your needs and your budget. We bring the best international technology and latest techniques into one place for you. Our team can cater to all of your dental needs in one place.
What can dental implants do for you?
As people lose their teeth, their enjoyment of food is reduced and their appearance is affected. Speaking can be troublesome and a denture can feel very bulky in the mouth. At Seapoint Clinic our dental implants can change that forever.
If you struggle with a loose denture they can make them comfortable and secure. If you have a bridge that is failing we can replace it with no damage to the other teeth.
Dental Implants can be used to replace one or all of your missing teeth. They can also be used to make a loose denture secure and comfortable.
Dental Implants do not cover your palate and allow you to taste food and drinks properly again… Some of our patients say they feel too good to be true…
What is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a man made root which is gently placed where the tooth used to be. This root can be used as a support for a new tooth, or to support a denture. Implants have been used successfully for over 40 years in dentistry but the modern implant is the closest thing to a real tooth. An implant, unlike a bridge or a denture, does not rely on the neighbouring teeth for support, meaning the other teeth are left undamaged. Implants are also resistant to decay as they are made from titanium. With correct maintenance, they can last a lifetime.
The benefits of Dental Implants v's Dentures
Dental Implants are the best way to prevent looseness and stop the bone loss that normally occurs with regular dentures. A regular denture sits on the gum and is held in place by suction where it is possible to get a seal. Over time, bone loss will occur in the jawbone and the gums will shrink, meaning that the denture will become loose over time. Dental Implants, on the other hand, help stop this bone loss in the jaws in the same way that natural teeth do. They are the only way to prevent further bone loss once the teeth are gone.
Many people suffer a great deal of discomfort and embarrassment as a result of loose or ill-fitting dentures, often avoiding social interactions involving food or public speaking as a result of their discomfort.
Click-tite dentures are a great solution for these social and practical problems. We have seen hundreds of people benefit from improved appearance and better chewing capability and comfort with these implant-supported dentures.
It is also often possible to get rid of dentures entirely and to opt for fixed teeth, which you brush in your mouth and do not take out at night. These take up less space in your mouth, with no palate, and are the most comfortable replacement for missing teeth.
The implant procedure
To place an implant, we gently numb the area. We use some numbing gels to make you are as comfortable as possible. Once you are numb, you will not feel any discomfort at all. The implant is placed gently through the gum, close to where the old tooth used to be. Often a small stitch or two will be placed but this will dissolve within 2 weeks. We usually recommend some oral sedation to make the day even more comfortable and to make you feel even more relaxed. If you do opt for sedation, you will drift in and out of a gentle sleep and may not even remember the procedure itself. You are then supplied with some antibiotics to help your body heal and keep the mouth clean and healthy.
Am I suitable for Dental Implants?
There are several different types of implants which are designed for different types of situations. At Seapoint Clinic, we have a range of different types of Implants and can cater for patients with different requirements. Even if you have been previously told you are unsuitable for dental implants, due to bone loss for example, we can offer you a solution.
For a dental implant procedure to work, there must be enough bone in the jaw, and the bone must be strong enough to both hold and support the implant. If there is not enough bone we can stimulate and grow the bone in a procedure called bone regeneration. Mini Dental Implants are also useful with minimal remaining bone and are placed with local anaesthetic in just one hour.
If you are missing a tooth, the sooner you opt for Dental Implants the better, as every day you are missing a tooth you are losing bone. The more bone you lose the more time and effort it will take to replace.
There is no age limit to getting an implant procedure. We welcome patients from the ages of 18-90 getting implants regularly, after accidents, tooth extractions or general tooth loss. If you would like to be able to chew comfortably, smile with confidence and prevent bone loss, Dental Implants are the ultimate solution for you.

Implants, your Health Insurer and Tax Relief
If you have health insurance and are missing all of your teeth, you will often be covered for a portion, or all of the cost of some implants on the bottom jaw. Typically, your insurer will make a contribution of approximately €500 per implant to a maximum of 6, when you struggle to wear a denture. If you are getting micro-implants, this can often completely cover the cost of the treatment. If you are getting standard implants, they will make a significant contribution to the treatment cost. This is subject to prior approval from your insurer.
Another advantage to consider is that Dental implants are also covered by tax relief at the marginal rate of 20%, as a medical expense. To find out more you can contact our reception team at 01 284 2570 or email info@seapointclinic.ie
