Easter sugar rush…

Easter sugar rush…

Just remember that sugar is the number one cause of dental cavities and decay.

We’re not saying that you can’t enjoy Easter eggs over the holidays (we’ll be enjoying them too), but please be mindful of your teeth.

There are things you can do that will help with your oral hygiene and decrease your risk of decay – not just over Easter, but every day.

We all know that brushing is important to kill the plaque-causing bacteria in our mouths. Brushing your teeth for at least two minutes, twice a day will help keep plaque at bay. However, it’s also important to clean the difficult to reach areas between the teeth. Make sure you reach for the dental floss or a small interdental brush to get a good clean between the teeth.

Many people don’t think about their tongue when it comes to brushing their teeth and would be surprised at the amount of bacteria that is present. Try brushing your tongue when you brush your teeth, it will help kill bacteria on the tongue – this is a major cause of bad breath too.
The best way to decrease your chance of cavities and tooth decay is to limit your intake of sugar. Most people will consume more sugar around Easter, but try to limit your intake at other times. Try brushing your teeth at least an hour after you eat – this will help.

If you limit your sugar intake elsewhere over the holidays, this could be a simple as opting for water instead of a sugar-filled fizzy drink, you can minimise the impact.
Maybe now is the time to think about booking your spring teeth cleaning with one of our hygienists? If you’d like to see a dentist for your general check-up the same day, you’ll save €20.

All the staff at Seapoint would like to wish you all a very happy Easter. Enjoy your treats and don’t forget to brush.
