Immediate / Emergency Dental Implants

“Immediate loading” or immediate implants is an important part of modern implant dentistry. It means you can have teeth on your dental implants within 24 -48 hours of having them placed. Unfortunately, almost everyone always wants their teeth right away. It is not always the best thing to do. But sometimes, it can be the best thing to do. You really need to discuss with us, the risks versus benefits of this procedure.

Immediate teeth work best when dealing with a full jaw of teeth at a time. It is more successful in the lower jaw than the upper jaw also, as the bone density here is much greater. When it is possible and the dental implants are put in, we can make temporary teeth, or whole set of teeth, right here in our onsite dental laboratory. You would walk out of Seapoint with teeth and with no gaps. The temporary teeth will look, feel and work as closely as possible to your normal teeth.

Your care and maintenance of your dental implants has a significant role, however, in the success of this treatment. You need to commit to having a soft diet for at least 3 months. Keeping things completely clean is paramount. Smoking is a big NO!

Even though the teeth are connected to the implants, they still need to fuse to your bone. This is called “osseointegration.” If you cannot promise this, immediate loading or immediate temporaries are not for you. It has a high risk of failure if you chew harder foods too early. All of the implants can fail.

Some of the important factors in determining if immediate loading can be done are:

  • Bone density
  • Amount of bone (Quantity)
  • Initial stability of the implants
  • Shape and type of gum
  • Implant design and type
  • Your bite

What is definitely most important, is achieving the goal of healthy teeth for life. Whether this takes one visit or a couple of visits. Trust us as your experts to recommend the right course of treatment for you.
