5 Facts About Whitening

5 Facts About Whitening

Our teeth can darker and look dull over time. This is simply down to everyday wear and tear, along with aging naturally. However, in recent years teeth whitening has become increasingly popular in Ireland. Do you feel like your teeth have lost their sparkle or are you just unsure where to start? Here at Seapoint Clinic, we're more than happy to help...

What Is Seapoint's Deep Teeth Whitening?

We use a light-activated teeth whitening gel,. When its main ingredient hydrogen peroxide is triggered by the light, the gel is broken down and allows oxygen to enter the enamel and dentin, bleaching coloured substances while the structure of the teeth is unchanged.

How Long Does It Take?

Our complete teeth whitening procedure takes an hour and a half ( or two hours if you would like to also include home whitening trays). The teeth whitening begins with a quick preparation period followed by 45 minutes of whitening. This is done in 3 sessions of 15 minutes. We do request that you have seen a dentist and hygienist within the past 6 months in order to avail of our teeth whitening treatment.

One of the easiest things we can do to help you is to whiten your teeth. If you’ve got staining on your teeth from red wine, tea, coffee, anything like that at all, come for one session of Seapoint's deep tooth whitening and we can bring your teeth up to 8 shades whiter in just a single visit.

How Long Will It Last?

The lasting effects of teeth whitening can vary from person to person based on lifestyle, such as regularly eating staining foods or drinks like tea, coffee, red wine, wear of the teeth and the aging process of the teeth themselves. On average, results can last anywhere between 1-3 years when coupled with regular hygiene appointments and home whitening.

Can I Continue To Whiten At Home?

The most effective way of maintaining your white smile is with home whitening. It is often combined with Seapoint's Deep Teeth Whitening so you can achieve instant results and you will still have the whitening trays to use later to “top up” your teeth safely and effectively if you feel they have stained after time or after foods which are particularly strong in colour.

How Can I Maintain My New White Smile?

There is a vast range of home whitening kits available, including paint-on whiteners and strips but these are not always assessed for safety and tend to be more acidic as the amount of whitening agent differs with each product. So there is a chance that these products could damage your teeth and gums.
