Dentures Causing Malnutrition

Dentures Causing Malnutrition

A recent study by researchers at King's College discovered that people that wear dentures and significant tooth loss were far more likely to avoid foods that are more difficult to eat, often resulting in a lack of nutrition along with an increased chance of muscle and joint frailty. This means that their diet is limited and can be missing out on fresh fruit and vegetables.

The study which involved over 1,800 people around the age of 60 were split into three groups - people with their full set of teeth, people with missing teeth and denture wearers. It found that denture wearers and people with fewer teeth were at a greater chance to be frail and suffer from malnutrition.

I had dentures for 45 years and they were rattling around my mouth!

Why Should I Replace My Old Dentures?

We're all aware of the importance of a carefully balanced diet, consisting of fresh fruit, vegetables and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. However for people with dentures, it can be difficult to eat foods that are naturally rich in nutrients - such as nuts, apples and carrots. We hear from patients, just like you, on a daily basis who are fed up of struggling to eat the foods they love. Quite often, dentures can become loose and uncomfortable, making even laughing or talking a challenge.

The Solution

Dental implants look, feel and act just like natural teeth. This means you can wave goodbye to those sticky denture pastes and glues and finally eat any and all the foods you love. We see it every day how a full set of teeth can change people, restoring confidence and smiles. Dental implants are an investment in the future of your overall health. Why struggle with missing teeth or an uncomfortable denture any longer...
