Orthodontics Explained

Orthodontic treatment is the process of gently moving the teeth, gradually straightening them and improving the overall look and function. As crooked teeth cannot correctly align, they are at higher risk of being lost early due to tooth decay, increased pressure on the jaw and periodontal disease. The overall benefits of orthodontic treatment means that teeth are more likely to last a lifetime as well as make for improved oral health.

Teen Orthodontics

The ideal time for orthodontic treatment is during your teenage years, specifically between the ages of 11-15. On average, most people have the vast majority of their permanent teeth by age 11. It's also easier to detect potential issues such as gaps, crooked teeth and bad bites at a younger age. Another reason being is that as your body is still growing during your teenage years, an orthodontist has a better chance of taking advantage of these growth spurts in order to improve your bite.It also means that treatment time is far shorter than what it would be as an adult, drastically reducing any sensation of discomfort and help enhance jaw growth providing an optimum facial appearance. Here at Seapoint Clinic, we have a wide range of orthodontic treatment available - such as conventional braces, see-through braces and Invisalign

Adult Orthodontics

Some people may not of undergone orthodontic treatment when they were young, meaning they now have issues with their teeth and gums or in some cases, may just be unhappy with their smile. In other cases, people did wear braces when they were young but did not continue wearing their retainers, leading to issues arising. As a result of these issues, more and more people are undergoing orthodontic treatment as an adult. We only use gentle pressure while moving the teeth and although it may take some getting used to at first, over time you will hardly notice them. Similar to teen orthodontics, we have a wide range of treatments available to suit your specific needs, including conventional, Invisalign and Six Month Braces.

They have a great orthodontist here. His manner with children is absolutely fantastic. It was an absolute no brainer.
