Root-end Surgery

Root-end Surgery

Root-end surgery is a relatively minor procedure that involves removing the end of the root of a dead tooth and sealing the end with a filling. The surgery is often recommended in cases where a root-canal has become infected which can become quite uncomfortable..

Reasons For Root-end Surgery

In some cases, you may require this form of treatment where a hole has appeared or an infection has developed. Even if you don't necessarily feel any discomfort, it's important to seek the advice of your dentist in order to prevent an infection developing into something far more serious.

The benefits of opting for root-end surgery are;

  • A reduced risk of an infection spreading
  • No discomfort while chatting, eating or drinking
  • Eliminates the need for an infected tooth to be extracted

What's Involved...

Treatment involves a small incision being made adobe the tooth in the gum, allowing your dentist to clean the area. In some events, it be be required to drill a tiny portion away at the base of the tooth to remove any infected tissue or bone. We would then used a sealant to seal up the end of the root. Although it all sounds quite bewildering, treatment is performed under local anaesthetic and you can even opt for sedation if you like, meaning you won't notice a thing!
