Are your soft drinks eating your teeth?

Are your soft drinks eating your teeth?

The saying goes "Enjoy a Coke with Friends..." Did you know however that Coke has a PH of 2.53-2.6. It is about the most acidic thing you can drink! Sulphuric acid only comes in at 2.75!!

The lower the PH the more acid erosion there is to your teeth. Remember that tooth structure damage is irreversible. Once it`s gone it`s gone... Tooth erosion can lead to staining and chipping of teeth. It also caused premature ageing and shortening of the teeth as well as sensitivity and pain.

There are some drinks that don`t have the same acid effects on your teeth. Most natural waters are neutral in PH but remember that carbonated ones are usually low PH too.. Milk is also neutral and so a good choice with meals.

If you do have areas of sensitivity ask your dentist or hygienist about applying a desensitiser to seal and protect the tooth structure.

Best advice is to reduce consumption of acidic drinks and try to wash your mouth with mouthwash or water immediately after. Straws can also help to bypass the teeth when drinking acidic drinks.
